How to Filter E-mail Using Outlook Express

The following Instructions are for making a filter to move email to a designated folder. The setup instructions are good for Win 9x, ME, 2000, and XP. Please note some varitation can occur. If you have any trouble with setup, please call (702) 870-1025.

  1. With Microsoft Outlook Express open highlight a spam message that has SPAM DETECTED in the title of the message. Click Message then Create Rule From Message from the menu bar.

  2. Click New button. Under Select the Conditions for your Rule put a check in the box next to Where the From line contains specific words. Under the Select the Actions for your rule check the box next to Move it to the specified folder.

  3. Under the Rule Description click on the hot link that reads contains specific words. In the box that asks to Type specific words or a phrase, type in SPAM DETECTED then click on the Add button. Click OK.

  4. Under the rule Description click on the hot link that reads specifed folder.

  5. At this point there are a few choices to do with your SPAM messages. For example you can highlight the folder Deleted Items to move the messages to this folder. If you wish to make a new folder to put these messages to a new folder highlight Local Folders then click on the New Folder button.

  6. In the New Folder window type the the new Folder name like Junk Mail click OK.

  7. Your Mail Rule window will look something like this. Read the Rule Description and make sure that what it says makes sence and is how you want to treat your SPAM.

  8. Click the OK button.

    You have successfully setup your computer to move the messages that have been flagged as SPAM to a specified folder.
